Hello and welcome to another of my rare blog posts.*
First off, exciting news!
If you somehow missed me yelling about it on Twitter, STARBORN’s on the shortlist for the Gemmell Morningstar Award for Best Fantasy Debut. If you read and enjoyed the book (more than the other amazing books on the shortlist, which I know is a big ask), I would really appreciate your vote. Gemmells are awarded solely through public vote, which is a great opportunity to show your love for a book. AND it only takes two clicks, so super easy. You can also vote on the Legend (best fantasy novel) and Ravenheart (best cover) awards too.
Onto HEARTLAND. Quite a few people have asked me where it is, so I thought I’d write a small post to reassure everyone that it is indeed coming, along with Book 3. The bad news: you’ll have to wait until August 2017. The good news: Book 3 will be released the same year, along with a re-release of STARBORN so you get the whole series in one go, all as beautifully re-packaged paperbacks. That means new covers *cheers*.
Thank you thank you to everyone who’s stuck with the series and a big sorry for making you wait for HEARTLAND. Hopefully you’ll want to pick it up next year and the wait will be worth it. (I promise it’s very exciting).
I am still brainstorming ideas for the title of Book 3, so if you have a suggestion (it has to work with STARBORN and HEARTLAND) please tweet it to me. I’ve already rashly promised that if I end up using your idea, I’ll put you in the book. And since I’m at 50,000 words out of a planned 130,000, there’s plenty of opportunity. Roles up for grabs include: I-used-to-be-an-adventurer-like-you-until-I-took-an-arrow-in-the-knee guard, several hundred rebels, a score of downtrodden prisoners, grizzled soldiers, fur-clad, axe-wielding barbarians, mages – the usual fantasy crowd. Oh and dragons. I’m sure I can find something to fit all tastes.
If you want a sneak peak at HEARTLAND, I’m going to be reading at Super Relaxed Fantasy Club on 26th July at Waterstones Tottenham Court Road, alongside Messrs James Barclay and Al Robertson. Come for the drinks, stay for the fantasy.
In August, I’ll be popping by Goldsboro Books’ Fantasy in the Court on 11th. This one’s always a great evening with lots of authors to stalk. And the following day sees the start of Nine Worlds con, where I’ll be swanning around as Daenerys. It would be marvellous to see as many of you there as possible. This time, I will not be drinking Bailey’s.
After that it’s Fantasycon in September, so if I don’t see you at Nine Worlds, there’s a chance we’ll bump into each other in Scarborough.
Also, do check out my new page for our podcast BREAKING THE GLASS SLIPPER. Megan, Charlotte and I will be at Nine Worlds recording an episode live. When the schedule’s released, I’ll post it up here.
But for now: over and out.
