A new historical fantasy coming in Spring 2021.
In ancient Devon, the children of King Cador grow to adulthood, heirs to a fragmented land abandoned by the Romans.
Riva, scarred in a terrible fire, fears she will never heal.
Keyne, assigned a female gender at birth, fights to find his place.
Sinne, the spoiled youngest, yearns for adventure.
All three fear a life of confinement within the walls of the hold – a last bastion of strength against the invading Saxons. But change comes on the day ash falls from the sky, bringing Myrdhin, meddler and magician, and Tristan, a warrior whose secrets will tear the siblings apart. Riva, Keyne and Sinne must take fate into their own hands, or risk being tangled in a story they could never have imagined; one of treachery, love and ultimately, murder. A story that will shape the destiny of Britain.
Bringing a legendary historical period to life in the style of Madeline Miller with the magical overtones of Naomi Novik, Sistersong reimagines the folk ballad, ‘The Twa Sisters’ through the eyes of one the tale forgot.
I can’t wait to share this story with you! I’ve wanted to tell it ever since I heard The Twa Sisters / Bonny Swans ballad and it has given me a wonderful opportunity to bring my local Devon history to life. I am posting lots of background on the novel’s setting, themes and characters over on Instagram if you would like to hear more about it over the course of the year. And below is a video I made to introduce it! As always, do think about signing up to my newsletter, as that’s where I’ll be sharing more exclusive content like excerpts / deleted scenes and news in advance.
